Yankees player suffered broken ankle in gruesome injury

The New York Yankees expect to be without infielder Oswaldo Cabrera for an extended period of time after he suffered a fractured ankle during Monday night’s game in Seattle.

The Yankees confirmed the extent of Cabrera’s injury Tuesday when they placed him on the 10-day injured list.

Cabrera landed awkwardly on his left ankle as he was trying to score on a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning.

He remained down for several minutes before he was put on a stretcher and taken off the field in a medical van.

‘He was in pain. That’s what he kept saying a lot,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said, adding that just before Cabrera left the field, he asked Judge: ‘Did I score?”

Infielder DJ LeMahieu was activated off the injured list before Tuesday’s game to take Cabrera’s spot on the roster and will most likely take over as the team’s starting third baseman.
